Ingredients

1 can (4 ounces) chopped green chiles4 teaspoons ground cumin1 teaspoon chili powder3/4 teaspoon garlic powder3/4 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon pepper2 pounds lean ground beef3/4 pound bulk pork sausage8 slices Monterey Jack cheese8 hamburger buns, split, toasted8 lettuce leaves1 large tomato, sliced1 to 2 ripe avocados, peeled and slicedOptional: Mayonnaise or mustard

Preparation

In a large bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients. Crumble beef and sausage over mixture; mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into 8 patties.

Grill, covered, over medium heat for 5 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear. Top each burger with a cheese slice.

Grill 1-2 minutes longer or until cheese begins to melt. Serve on buns, with the lettuce, tomato, avocado and mayonnaise or mustard if desired.
