Ingredients

1 pound bulk Italian sausage1 medium onion, chopped3 garlic cloves, minced2 cans (14-1/2 ounces each) diced tomatoes, undrained1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste1 tablespoon brown sugar2 bay leaves2 teaspoons dried oregano2 teaspoons dried basil1 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon dried thyme1/4 cup minced fresh basil, dividedHot cooked pasta

Preparation

In a large skillet, cook sausage and onion over medium heat for 7-8 minutes or until sausage is no longer pink and onion is tender. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Drain. Transfer to a 3-qt. slow cooker.

Stir in the tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, bay leaves, oregano, dried basil, salt and thyme. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Discard bay leaves; stir in half of the fresh basil. Serve with pasta. Top with remaining basil.
